What Does softPetroleum Data ScoutÔ Do?

softPetroleum Data ScoutÔ  is used to extract data from corporate databases or download from commercial data services, then convert and load the data into a softPetroleum EnterpriseÔ  data layer.  With any computer information system, it is important to realize that there are two fundamental aspects of the system, the software and the data that the software operates on. Getting the data into the system can be performed using one of two aproaches.  It can be manually entered through the user interfaces of the software or it can be transferred to the software if the data already exists in a compatible electronic form.

In the large corporate situation, the manual entry option is not practical due to the massive quantity of information which needs to be entered into the data layer.  The electronic data loading option is usually the only practical alternative.  However, corporate electronic data does not usually exist organized exactly in the softPetroleum EnterpriseÔ  data layer's native structure.  The data typically has to be extracted from multiple client systems with corresponding records matched between systems, converted to a compatible transfer format, mapped into softPetroleum EnterpriseÔ,  then loaded.

Custom data load processes are developed and programmed for individual clients.  These interfaces run programs specifically written to extract information  from the client's databases, convert it to softPetroleum Enterprise's format, and load the data into a new or existing data layer.  Interfaces are also provided for viewing the data during the data load steps.

Key Benefits

  • Custom data extraction from corporate systems, conversion and loading into the softPetroleum EnterpriseÔ data layer format
  • Is used independently from user applications
  • Provides interfaces to control data load process steps
  • Provides interfaces for viewing/editing the loaded data
